ABOUT CARRIE

Growing up in Central New York State, my favorite days were spent either riding horses, or sculpting increasingly grey Play-Doh into tiny horses, fences, and people. In high school, my art class participated in a lost-wax-to-bronze sculpting project affiliated with Syracuse University. The result was the "Fighting Stallions" sculpture pictured below. I dreamt of being a horse trainer, but that dream was never followed. The next 32 years consisted of no horses, sculpting, or art to speak of. I raised a family while working in the corporate world, primarily in Houston, Texas.

It wasn’t until 2021, after moving to Southwest Florida with my newly retired husband, that I took up a hand clay class at the Cape Coral Art Center outside of Fort Myers. Proactively managing illness challenges and chronic pain – with unending support from family, friends, and physicians throughout my adult life – I strive to stand up daily to limitations and feel a great deal of compassion for those who suffer, which, seemingly, is everyone in one way or another.

I am very grateful for a simple creative process. I intuitively search through multiple pieces of music while preparing the clay, and select one song to play repetitively while completing the piece in one to two hours. Most of the time, I ask the spiritual realm to participate and take the lead in the creation. The song becomes an integral part of the artistic meaning, and my emotions and the essence of the music is conveyed.

Each piece is then kiln fired and finished with a simple glaze and final firing.
